Configuring multiple displays in ChromeOS

Connect the displays to your Chrome device.

There are several ways to connect displays –

  1. Built in display (Chromebase only)
  2. External HDMI Display (Chromebox & Chromebase only)
  3. External DisplayPort Display (Select Chromebox models only)
  4. USB->HDMI (DVI, or VGA) Display Adapters (Must be UDL 3.0 compatible, works on most Chrome devices)

 

Configuring multiple screens from the device –

  1. Log in to Chrome OS
  2. Click the clock in the bottom right hand corner
  3. Click “Settings
  4. Scroll down to “Device“, Click “Displays
  5. Arrange monitors as needed
  6. Choose Extended, Mirrored, or Unified Desktop (must be enabled, see instructions for Unified Desktop)
  7. Apply settings to each monitor by clicking on it to select it (turns blue) and then changing the options – resolution, orientation, etc.
  8. Click “Done”

Resetting a Chrome Device

For pre-owned or refurbished devices

To completely wipe all user content

  1. Plug in a keyboard and monitor to the device
  2. Press [ESC] + [Refresh] + [Power]
  3. On the device itself, there is a small hole
  4. Unfold a paperclip to be able to push straight into the hole
  5. While pressing [Power] push the paperclip into the hole
  6. Once the device restarts, press [Ctrl] + [D]
  7. Press [Reset]
  8. Once the device restarts, press [Ctrl] + [D]
  9. Developer mode will load for about 5 minutes
  10. Once developer mode has loaded, press [Spacebar]
  11. Press [Enter]
  12. The System will reboot once again
  13. Congratulations, you have now learned about resetting a chrome device

Configuring a Chrome device with Chrome Enterprise Management (Managed Kiosk mode)

 

 

Before you Begin

Before enrolling devices into your Admin console, you will need to configure your Chrome kiosk settings (managed kiosk mode) in your admin console, otherwise the Arreya application will not start automatically. Part 1 – Reset Device To Factory Settings (Optional)

If your device has been used in consumer/desktop mode previously, you will need to reset the device to factory settings.

  1. Power device OFF
  2. Connect keyboard and mouse
  3. Insert paperclip in reset hole next to SD card slot (Above the lock slot, to the left of the SD slot)
  4. While holding the paperclip in, press and release the power button to turn the box on
  5. A screen will appear that says “Chrome OS is missing…”
  6. Release the paperclip
  7. Press CTRL + D
  8. Press and release the reset button once using the paperclip, the box will reboot quickly
  9. A screen will appear that says “OS verification is OFF”
  10. Press SPACE, then press ENTER to confirm resetting the device.

 

The device is now reset and you should be at the welcome screen.

 

Part 2 – Enroll Device in CDM

  1. Complete the Connectivity setup screen
  2. Accept the agreement
  3. At the sign-in screen, DO NOT LOG IN – Press CTRL + ALT  + E or More Options and then select Enterprise Enrollment
  4. The sign-in screen should now say “Enterprise Enrollment”
  5. Sign in to complete enterprise enrollment

 

Note: You may need to move the Chrome device into the correct organization once you’ve enrolled it into your admin console. Otherwise the Arreya kiosk application might not be configured. https://arreya.com/kb/moving-a-chrome-device/

 

Part 3 – Pair your device with an Arreya channel

  1. Power on your Chrome device, verify it starts the Arreya app and displays a 4 character pair code
  2. Log in to your Arreya account
  3. Under “Management” menu click [Devices]
  4. Click [+ Add Device]
  5. Enter a name for your device and the 4 character code displayed on the device
  6. Click [Add Device!]

The Chrome Kiosk App for Arreya is found using this code in the managed kiosk apps menu. Simply type the code in and click [add]. Arreya will show up and click [set to Auto Launch].
