We do not recommend or support using the built-in player of a Smart TV to display content with Arreya. While it may be possible on some displays, we have found the overall experience is not what our customers are looking for. We are always testing new devices and displays and will update this document as we find new options. We highly recommend and support using a Chrome device for the best experience with Arreya.
Performance
Most Smart TVs have issues with media playback and may be missing key features for other types of content. Most Smart TVs have issues displaying simple content with a web application like Arreya.
Updates & Security
It is rare for Smart TVs to receive updates, and we have seen several models that can no longer run content due to security changes. Smart TVs are typically on a 1yr lifecycle and are often outdated at the time of purchase.
Reliability
We have not found any Smart TVs that can run content reliably in a production setting. Smart TVs lack remote management capabilities and will require human intervention.
Support
Smart TV manufacturers provide little support on using the TVs for this purpose. If you encounter an issue, you are likely on your own for a workaround or fix.
Finding the best screen for Arreya Digital Signage software is easy, because most screens will work with the addition of a Chromebox. However, for maximum display functionality there are some things to consider. Chrome devices work beautifully with our software subscription. In the same token, older screens from other manufacturers can be retrofitted to work, when the budget for new hardware is not available.
A large part of the decision will depend on the intended use for the screen.
Do you want displays to hang in hallways out of reach, but in clear view for passersby?
Is it a small indoor monitor or an outdoor signage integration?
Will the screen be part of an interactive display that requires a touch screen?
Do you want a large screen or a small tablet for your display?

No single type of screen is required to use Arreya
We recommend 1080p resolution for all displays
For a screen to be powered by Chrome device, an HDMI input is required
To take advantage of Arreya’s interactive capabilities, a touchscreen is required
Also note that Arreya can be viewed on any device with an internet browser. That means that your channel can be viewed on phones, tablets, and personal computers for no additional cost.
