12 Needs In Digital Meeting Room Signs

12 Needs In Digital Meeting Room Signs

digital touchscreen conference room signsEffectively managing meeting rooms can be a ordeal. Business partners can spend valuable time running between meeting rooms trying to figure out if rooms are booked, if people are attending and when the rooms will become free. Some rooms might constantly get double-booked, which can cause issues. Other rooms may rarely get booked, staying empty most of the time or have meetings scheduled that are not attended. Valuable employee time is wasted on keeping up with paper schedules or unnavigable digital models. By using digital meeting room signs, many of these complications can be eliminated and the scheduling process for multiple meeting rooms can become seamless. Investigating the different products takes times, but there are 12 needs in digital meeting room signs that are necessary for the best experience in managing meeting rooms.

Simplifying Digital Meeting Room Signs

Meeting room scheduling should be simple. Organizations shouldn’t have to waste time trying to schedule a meeting or hire staff to handle the conference room schedules. A digital meeting room solution should be easy to install, seamless to manage from your organizations calendar and tell everyone at a glance what is going on and where. It’s that simple, so why are so many solutions complicated? Schedule from one common calendar that everyone at the organization can access and you have eliminated most of the problems. Arreya Rooms seamlessly integrates with G Suite calendar allowing feed directly from schedules and keeping track of all rooms in one place for at-a-glance management.

Arreya Rooms is a solution to meeting room management catastrophes. It meets all 12 needs in digital meeting room signs and goes beyond for a user-friendly system that can expand to any size campus. Arreya Rooms has many of the same thoughtful features found in Arreya Digital Signage Suite and because all updates are automatic, new features are constantly being added.

  4. Branding options for individualized graphics

  7. Simple setup and automatic updates
  8. Easy company-wide user interface
  9. Confirm attendees
  10. Report room issues
  11. meeting progress bar

  • The password-protected settings menu lets you change layout, background image, colors, and status messages.
  • The room overview shows users the status of every meeting space associated with your G Suite account, so they can look for an open room.
  • Users can check into events, and Arreya Rooms can automatically cancel any events that haven’t been checked into, freeing the room for other meetings.

  • In case you don’t have access to a computer, you can also easily schedule a meeting right there. Arreya Rooms also includes an account dashboard, where you can manage your licenses and subscription, and check for any issues reported with any of the meeting spaces.

Eyeing the Bottom-line

Other meeting room signage systems are both expensive to setup and to maintain. Some systems require authorized tech teams to troubleshoot problems or fix issues. Waiting for a tech crew to fix issues can be time consuming and will usually cost for each visit. Arreya Rooms is super easy to setup, and takes almost nothing to maintain. Because Arreya Rooms is completely cloud based, troubleshooting can be done from anywhere by logging into a secure online manager.  Because it is part of the Arreya family it is covered by the same great free tech support associated with Arreya Digital Signage Suite.

“Thank you very much for the outstanding support you have provided in helping me navigate Arreya.  It’s a shame that customer service is lacking in most online businesses. You are a cut way above the rest!”  –– Arizona Department of Corrections

Some meeting sign systems require dedicated staff to maintain the meeting room signage, and don’t allow automatic calendar feeds. Instead, you must cut and paste from numerous calendars into the sign system, wasting valuable work time and taking the risk of human errors in scheduling.

Enable team members to collaborate together, from anywhere, in real time with G Suite resources including Google Chrome Hangouts Meet. Schedule and invite attendees, know who has accepted and add the convenient automatic cancellation feature to free up rooms quicker. No duplicate booking errors or new software to learn.

Meeting Room Hardware

Arreya Rooms is hardware-agnostic, meaning it can be run on virtually any device with an internet browser, but the AOpen Chromebase Mini is the recommended hardware because of its hard case, commercial use, and powerful platform that allows for touchscreen interaction.  You can read more about the AOpen Chromebase Mini here.

ChromeOS devices can be locked down by using kiosk mode, which prevents any unauthorized users from changing what gets displayed. Additionally, ChromeOS devices can be monitored and managed through the Google Admin console, letting administrators control their devices remotely.

Every Arreya Room subscription comes with an AOpen Chromebase Mini, perpetual CEM license, slim wall mount, 3 month subscription of Arreya Room and white glove setup. When you receive your Arreya Room package, all you have to do is plug it in and schedule.

How to Feed Your Digital Sign Content Using Google Sheets

How to Feed Your Digital Sign Content Using Google Sheets

In today’s signage world people expect information to be current. Outdated information is usually the result of a signage system that is too much work to keep updated. Designing content on your display should not only be about how great it looks but also how it can keep current and relevant. A menu with the old prices or a progress report with last months values is not the impression you want any viewer to have about your accountability. Using Google Sheets in Digital Signs will feed your screens the dynamic content you can count on.

Also knowing how you will keep this content current is necessary. Digital signage that my clients can’t control or keep updated is just another outdated poster being ignored. As a designer it is my role to also think about how to best integrate and automated content easily while still making it look amazing – Google Sheets in Digital Signs can make this happen.

Plus Google Sheets in Digital Signs is a powerful tool that anyone can use. By taking advantage of this widget you can have ticket prices that change by simply typing new values into your spreadsheet. Have multiple employees control a list that updates regularly from a shared spreadsheet. Even display your company stock price that automatically updates through Google’s built in Finance options using sheets.

In fact there are 3 common uses of the Google Sheets widget.Google sheets in digital signs

Great for Menu Boards
Prices and menu items are going to change – what if you are sold out of an item that day? Now you don’t need to worry about the time it will take to redesign or paying your designer to make graphic updates. Simply open your Google sheet and change your menu item in seconds. Now for that sold out item….Instead of having frustrated customers your store manager can change the price to “Sold Out”.

Google sheets stock ticker insert digital signageGreat for Stock Market Dashboards
Displaying relevant markets for your industry and presenting your companies stock values must have current numbers – your viewers expect it. Customized programming or paying for a stock feed service are no longer needed. Google Sheets has a built-in function called GOOGLEFINANCE which fetches current or historical securities information from Google Finance to a Google Sheet. Then the Arreya widget links that information into your signage. Options for what you can display are many  https://support.google.com/docs/answer/3093281?hl=en and there is  flexibility to style these numbers will give you that custom stock board you are after.

google sheets for digital signageGreat for Progress Goals
Data is powerful and people react to change. You can now have a display communicating frequent changes to your totals – which creates a positive impact with those viewing your signs. You can’t afford your signage to fall behind so being able to easily change that running total in the moment is important. You can now quickly enter new values, even assign others to also update values. From employee sales goals, to web site hits, and how many sign ups you can have live updating feeds.

Equally important is that it’s easy to run Google Sheets in digital signs without any coding or complicated set up through the Arreya Widget.

  1. First set up your content in Google sheets – Organize into columns and rows. Each cell of content will then be linked into your sign. Even take advantage of Google’s Data Integration like finance.
  2. Then publish your sheet to the web and copy the link – A concern people have is security. The link provided does have a security token in the web address, which means it is unlikely that others could accidentally come across the file. It cannot be searched. You need the exact link to view the content and Arreya does not display this publically. However we do not recommend using sensitive company data for this use.
  3. Next place the Google Sheets widget into your layout – Paste the link into the widget and assign which cell you want displayed. Let’s say you want Cell A3. Then whatever is typed in that cell on your Google Sheet will then display in your layout. Simply style and size that content and position A3 into the layout. If you have multiple items to show you will repeat this step and can place as many widgets on your page as you need. Once your layout is complete you can push live and exit Arreya.
  4. And for future signage updates – Making changes can just be made by entering new values in your Google sheet which then automatically feed your screen.  Even share your sheet with other individuals to give them the ability to update the digital signage without ever having to worry about learning a new program.

Indeed thinking about all the ways I can use Google Sheets In Digital Signs is exciting.  As a designer it gives me another trick for creating amazing signage. Then again tricks are intended to deceive… what I really have is a bag filled with super signage powers and it is my job to decide what to use to best control content. Being able to integrate Google Sheets in Digital Signs is powerful, it’s a program familiar to so many and offers so much opportunity to handle content in so many ways.

So start feeding current content using Google Sheets… It’s the super signage thing to do!

The Difference Between Arreya Digital Signage and Chrome Sign Builder

The Difference Between Arreya Digital Signage and Chrome Sign Builder

chrome sign builder          Arreya Creative Studio in Action

We get a lot of questions about how Chrome Sign Builder different from Arreya Digital Signage.  With a free tool called Chrome Sign Builder you have everything you need for Chrome Signs, right?  Not quite. The name Chrome Sign Builder implies that you can build digital signs, but the reality is quite different.  Chrome Sign Builder has one primary function – Scheduling existing content that is already hosted online. I think It would be a better fit to call it Chrome Sign Scheduler.  With this in mind, you have to ask – if it only schedules, how do you create and manage the content?  Keep reading to see more about how the Arreya experience is different from Chrome Sign Builder.

Arreya VS Chrome Sign Builder

One easy way to spot the difference between Arreya and Chrome Sign Builder is to look at their core features.  In the chart below you will see that Chrome Sign Builder has one core feature – scheduling content. If you look at the documentation for Sign Builder they list 4 main functions –

  1. Creating a schedule
  2. Setting a default URL
  3. Exporting the schedule file
  4. Deleting a schedule

Need to do more than that?  Then Chrome Sign Builder isn’t going to cut it.  Want to edit your existing schedule? Nope, that option hasn’t arrived since being requested back in 2015. Every time you want to make a change to your existing schedule you will need to start over completely.  There’s also some issues with the core feature of Sign Builder that will throw a wrench in your signage once it’s up and running – like this one where schedules are off by a day every new year.  But, it is free.  Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

Arreya on the other hand, provides you with a complete easy-to-use package with Templates, Arreya Creative Studio, Scheduling, Management, Analytics, and more.  Of course, this package wouldn’t be complete without our outstanding support and training that is included with every subscription. Take a look at the chart and compare for yourself.

Why Arreya?

If free is your primary motivation and you are willing to spend time creating a system to manage the content, Sign Builder may be a good fit.  It’s great for DIY folks and technical people like IT or developers that understand the Admin Console, policies for kiosk apps, and have a handle on how to create and host their own content – along with the time to do it all.  It will be up to you to generate policies and apply them to the correct OU to perform an update to your signage. Keep in mind though – time is money. You will be spending an unknown amount of time piecing together parts to create a system, not including the time it will take to keep it running day to day.So, who would use Chrome Sign Builder if all it can do is schedule content?

If you are concerned with ease of use, saving time, and in turn saving money – then Arreya is your best choice.  Arreya provides all the tools you need for your digital signage system in one easy to use web interface. Chrome Device Management Now Mandatory for Kiosk Mode

Chrome Device Management Now Mandatory for Kiosk Mode

Chrome Devices Management (CDM) has always made managing digital signage convenient with remote management capabilities, device health notifications, and locking devices into kiosk mode. But now, Google has made it mandatory to have a CDM License in order to lock the device in Kiosk Mode.

What is Kiosk Mode?

On Chrome Devices, kiosk mode keeps your signage secure from passersby changing the web content it being shown. You have probably heard of kiosks run on a Microsoft platform being “hacked,” and suddenly showing porn or other unwanted content. This often happens when the kiosk goes down. When it comes up again, you get an error screen with an address bar that allows anybody to go to any website.

With a Chrome device in Kiosk Mode, the device is locked down for security, not just the display. After the device crashes, it send you a message from your CDM that the device is down. When your device restarts, which you can usually do remotely, your digital signage display comes back up in kiosk mode, with no address bar available for people to type in unwanted URLs.

What is Chrome Device Management?

Google Chrome Device Management is a product from Google that is required in order to run a Chrome application in “Single App Kiosk” mode. Kiosk mode allows a Chrome device to be locked down from tampering and allows it to run a single app at a time, in this case the Arreya client application.

There are currently two options for Chrome Device Management, ENTERPRISE and STAND-ALONE.

CDM for Enterprise

  • For organizations that already use Google Apps or are looking to start a Google Apps account
  • Requires a domain that you can verify you own https://support.google.com/a/answer/60216?hl=en
  • Verification must be completed before we can provide licenses

Stand-alone CDM

  • For organizations that do not use Google Apps or do not wish to start a Google Apps account.
  • No domain is required, you will access the Google Admin console with a provided account and username that end in deviceadmin.goog
  • Registration can be done using the following link: https://devicemanagement.google.com/signup/form?product=Chrome-Kiosk
  • After registering for a Chrome Device Management Trial, your account name, which ends in .deviceadmin.goog, will be used to provide licenses.

AOpen Chromebase Mini for Digital Signage

AOpen Chromebase Mini for Digital Signage

Aopen Chrome Devices for Digital Signage new Chrome OS based Chromebox Mini and Chromebase Mini have a lot to offer for the digital signage and kiosk industry. These two products are AOpen’s first commercial Chrome devices targeted to a lower cost market. From a user standpoint, here are some thoughts, specifications, and how we plan on utilizing these two new devices released in 2017.

AOpen Chromebase Mini – Not a Tablet

AOpen’s latest addition to their Commercial Chromebase line of products, features a great looking 10.1” touch screen. The very first thing we noticed about this device was the weight, at 2.7 lbs this is not a tablet! The Chromebase mini is built for a commercial environment, an all metal enclosure makes it an admirable alternative to a cheap tablet for a high traffic, high use environment. Another feature differencing the Chromebase mini from a cheap tablet is the lack of an accessible power button to limit tampering with the device. We see this device being used for retail end-cap displays, conference room displays, calendar/scheduling displays, wayfinding, and many more use cases.

Aopen Chromebase Mini

The touch screen features 1280x800 resolution and supports up to 10 point multi touch. Overall the screen looks great and is a big win for this device. The Chromebase Mini shares most hardware specs with the Chromebox Mini and has similar processing power. Standard VESA mounting patterns on the back of the device make finding a mounting solution extremely easy. The HDMI output on the device is great to see for multiple monitor displays. The metal case makes it perfect for commercial use, or affordable enough for consumer use.

Our Pros:

  • Build quality, durability
  • Touch screen

Our Cons:

  • Non-standard 1280x800 screen resolution
  • Accessing the I/O ports can be cumbersome

Specs:

  • Panel: 10.1” 1280 x 800 250nits AHVA
  • Touch: 10 point multi-touch; pinch to zoom
  • CPU: Quad-Core Cortex-A17, up to 1.8GHz
  • DRAM: LPDDR3 Dual Channel 4GB
  • Storage: EMMC 5.0 16GB
  • FHD Webcam (2MP)
  • Built-in Dual Digital MIC and Stereo Speaker
  • WIFI+ BT4.0: 802.11 b/g/n/ac + BT4.0 x 1

AOpen Chromebox Mini

AOpen’s latest offering in their line of commercial grade Chromeboxes, is the aptly named Chromebox Mini. Just under 6″ x 1″, the device undoubtedly has one of the best form factors we have seen in a Chromebox. The Chromebox Mini comes with WiFi antennas which can be rotated to your desired angle, this inherently increases the footprint of the device but in tight environments, the built in ethernet connection can be used instead. The processing power of the Chromebox mini seems to be on par with similarly priced devices, although hardware specs are noticeably cut down from the rest of AOpen’s commercial Chromeboxes. Built in video output is limited to just one HDMI port. The Chromebox Mini also has a connection for a external power switch in the situation where the power button won’t be easily accessible.

The Chromebox Mini’s form factor and other features make it a great choice for someone looking for a powerful box for a traditional screen/player combo. The form factor of the device makes it easy to mount in existing enclosures and new installations.

Our Pros:

  • Great form factor, easy mounting capability
  • Price: Just $189.00 USD MSRP
  • External power switch connector

Our Cons:

  • No mounting tabs or brackets out of box
  • Limited to 1 video output

Specs:

  • Fanless/non venting hole design
  • CPU:Quad-Core Cortex-A17, up to 1.8GHz
  • DRAM: LPDDR3 Dual Channel 4GB
  • Storage: EMMC 5.0 16GB
  • WIFI+ BT4.0: 802.11 b/g/n/ac + BT4.0 x 1
