CDM – Creating an OU and user for device pairing

This guide walks through how to create an OU and user for setting up Chrome Devices with Chrome Device Management(CDM). This is all that is required to use our “White Glove” configuration service. Part 1 – Creating an OU in an existing Google admin console

  1. Visit https://admin.google.com
  2. Login using your Google Cloud Administrator account. You can check if your account is an administrator account here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6208960
  3. Navigate to “Device Management” using the icon on the admin console home screen
  4. Click “Chrome Devices”
  5. On the sidebar to the left side of the screen click the “⋮” icon next to the Organizational Unit (OU) that you wish to be the parent of the OU that houses your Chrome devices
  6. Click “Add sub organization”. Fill out the name and description if desired
  7. This OU will serve as the container for all of your chrome devices

Part 2 – Adding a temporary user for device pairing or our “white glove” service

    1. Visit https://admin.google.com
    2. Login using your Google Cloud Administrator account. You can check if your account is an administrator account here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6208960
    3. Navigate to “Users” using the icon on the admin console home screen
    4. Locate your Organizational Unit (OU) that you previously set up to manage your Chrome devices
    5. Click the “+” icon in the bottom right corner to add a new user
    6. Fill out the Name fields and primary email address fields
    7. Record the email address and auto generated password and provide it to us once the process is complete
    8. Click on the newly generated user to go into the individual user’s settings
    9. Now you will need to click “Show More” and navigate to the Admin roles and privileges sub-menu
    10. Click “Create new roles”

    11. Click “Create a new role”. Fill out Name and Description fields

    12. Ensure your settings in your Admin roles screen match the images below. Boxes to check:
      • Services > Chrome OS (all children)
      • Services > Chrome Kiosk (all children)
      • Shared device settings > Setup networks

    13. Be sure to save your changes!
    14. Now you can provide the email address and password for the account you just set up to us and we will be able to enroll your devices in the account. We will not have access to anything outside of the privileges you gave us and you can remove the account once setup is complete if you desire
